What Georgetown weights
Georgetown's evaluation reflects its Jesuit mission and its emphasis on service and commitment to others. But service at Georgetown means demonstrated, sustained commitment that connects to the student's intellectual and personal identity, not a week abroad or a tally of hours.
A student who tutors math at a community center, studies education policy, and writes about educational equity has a coherent, mission-ready narrative. A one-week service trip does not.
Where most families get it wrong
If Georgetown or other mission-driven schools (Notre Dame, Boston College, Villanova) are on the list, your child's service needs depth and a through-line to their interests, not a scattered set of one-off good deeds.
How Tafel uses this
Tafel checks whether a student's service reads as a sustained, identity-connected commitment for the mission-driven schools on their list.
